Can you figure out this sequence???

Hi 5th Graders,




Thank you for your attentiveness today.  We got through a lot of content and it's exciting to finally get started with the academic stuff!  Even though today's math lesson was pretty straightforward and easy, sequences can also be quite complex and be used to solve some real-life problems.

Below is a very famous sequence of numbers. 

0, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13 21, 34, 55, 89, 144...

Can you figure out the sequence?
What do you think this sequence was used to represent?

We'll talk about it tomorrow in math!

  4. The next 2 numbers are 233, 377 and we think it represents the number of fleas that are on my dog daily! :) Josh Boyers

  5. The answer is 233 because the numbers equal themselves. Like 1+1=2+3=5+8=13 and so on. -Joshua Vissicchio

  6. the answer is 233 because you just add the next two numbers until you come to the end. that was pretty hard, but i got it all by myself!!!! i just stared at the numbers for a long time because i was so confused. when i got the answer i so mad at myself because after i knew it, it seemed so easy. i always thought that i would always get the answer to sequences fast, because they were so easy. that one took quite a while.

  7. It's the Fibonacci sequence. The first two numbers are 0 and 1 and the next number in the sequence is the sum of the two numbers before.
    It's used to count pairs. Thanks Wikipedia!

  8. Finally figured it out 0+1=1 1+1=2 and so on. So the next number is 233

  10. You add 1 and 1 equls 2 and 2 and 3 equals 5 on and on in the sequence.

  13. Mr. Goh - I think the next number in the sequence is 233. I think the sequence was used to represent how many baby bunnies are born in one bunny family in a year.

  14. i think it is 233 because you add 1+1=2 and1+2=3 untill you get to 233.
